Needs to have a fenced environment and would benefit from obedience training.
GRIN received a FB message from a concerned citizen indicating there was a dog chained up behind an abandoned home and she was aware that the family had moved to CA. Long story short, it took some prodding on the part of our president to have the dog released into our care--phone calls were made. Sheriff's office thought the matter had been taken care of. She drove out to the abandoned home herself to check it out and yep, he was still there without food or water and defenseless against prey animals. She called the sheriff's office again and they agreed to send a deputy out (she got to a restaurant and bought the dog a hamburger while she waited). The deputy arrived and they were able to unchain the dog and move him to the safety of the local shelter. They named him Duke and he's about 2 years old and has a wonderful personality despite being left behind and neglected. He was temperament-tested and did exceptionally well. He loves dogs, cats, and toys. He's very gentle with treats. Duke knows sit and loves hugs and kisses. Right now he's a bit nervous but we're confident he'll come around quickly. Overall he's a great dog.
