GRIN tries to make every effort to keep this page current and up to date. Please keep in mind that by the time you submit an application and are going through the approval process, some of dogs pictured below may already be in the process of meeting and being adopted by other approved applicants.

The average ages of our rescued Goldens are 6-10 years of age, however GRIN does occasionally receive younger dogs that are in need of a home.  If you are interested in adopting a young dog, please do not wait until you see one on our website to apply for adoption.  Our approval process takes approximately 2-4 weeks to complete and by the time you have been approved for adoption, the younger dog will have already been placed into a loving home. Please start the application process now so that you can be on a waiting list for when GRIN does have younger dogs available.

Through a twist of unfortunate health, Charlie is a GRIN boy. Charlie's fate wasn't pretty without a rescue willing to take him after being diagnosed with heartworm disease.  That's in the rear view of this ex-breeding boy and things are looking up!  He's in a foster home and will be kept quiet during treatments. This handsome guy is fairly social but will need trained to walk on a leash. We suspect that very shortly our updates will include rave reviews, and Charlie will be the apple of his foster's eye!

Foster Update: 10/28/24

This beautiful boy is beginning to show signs of trusting people. He is still very shy but is becoming more and more social every day. Sudden noises still send him scooting away, but he is slowly becoming accustomed to all the household noises. Charlie has a wonderful appetite, and we have never caught him doing any type of counter surfing. If he is doing something you object to, simply saying his name makes him stop.

Through the past few months, Charlie has met several dogs and has been wonderful with them, playing and running. He seems to have an affinity for young children, trusting them more than adults. He really loves the outdoors, he plays and jumps and runs and really does not care to come inside on his own, but he is standing at the threshold of the doorway looking in  so it won’t be long.

Charlie is very well behaved on a leash and went for his first 1 mile walk last week. He really walked wonderfully except for sudden noises which frighten him and make him dart away. His potty-training skills are coming along, but it is a work in progress.

Charlie is such a handsome boy, and you cannot help but fall in love with him. When he runs and prances and jumps around and wags his tail when his foster dad comes outside with him it just melts your heart.

Foster Update: 8/23/24

Charlie has completed his eight weeks of confinement for heartworm treatment.  He handled being on crate rest amazingly well, as well as being leashed walked for all potty breaks. He's a very calm, laid-back boy, who is becoming accustomed to his surroundings & less & less startled by new noises. Charlie has developed a very strong bond with his foster dad, running beside him, bouncing around him, always having his foster dad within his sight.  His ears perk up instantly when he hears his foster dad's voice when returning home & has begun to wag his tail!  He seems to be extremely comfortable with the young child in the household who helps with feeding & spending time hanging out with Charlie.   His first two days out after his long confinement, he has been laying in front of his crate & wanders into other rooms occasionally.  Charlie does well with the resident cats.  He is schedule to be neutered at the end of August, will have a short recovery time & then be ready for adoption.  Charlie is quite the handsome boy!

Foster Update: 7/23/24

Let the countdown begin for Charlie!  He underwent his final HW treatments this past week and will be on restricted activity for the next 30 days.  Charlie tolerated the treatments like a champ.  His foster home is very dedicated in following the protocol for a successful recovery.  Charlie will be able to resume normal life around mid-August and we’re sure he’s looking forward to being off leash and rolling in the lawn.  What’s up next for Charlie?  He will need to be neutered prior to being deemed adoptable, which will be scheduled later this summer.

His foster mom reports that Charlie is making progress and allowing his humans to pet him and brush him.  He enjoys being outside (on leash) relaxing with his foster family watching the world go by.

Foster Update: 6/17/24

Charlie has been with us for a few weeks now and is showing some slow progress. Unfortunately, he is a typical mill dog, with no socialization.  He’s a very jumpy boy, any small noise or movement frightens him.  He seems to be mostly attracted to the three-year-old grandson in the house.  He does the cutest little bop with his nose to your hand after smelling it and today he bopped his foster Dad in the rear end while outside waiting for him to finish talking to a neighbor.  He has a wonderful appetite and would love to run free when outside.  He bounces when he walks and is good on the leash until something startles him, then he pulls and shakes his head very hard.  Charlie is learning his name and is working very hard to trust people.  He is a beautiful boy!

Charlie is scheduled for his 1st of two heartworm treatments on June 18th.  He will have restricted activity for the next 2 months as his final treatment will be in mid-July.  Once recovered he will be neutered.
